Collapse #10
You are now listening to the Green Blog of Phuc Khang Corporation – The pioneer Green Building Developer in Vietnam. In this broadcast, we would like to tell you a story named “COLLAPSE”.
We are “plants in a jungle and flowerless in the crowns”. On our trunks, green buds grow bigger and bigger, young leaves become older and older, turning yellow and withered. Our trunks look rough and gnarly, not slim and tender like those in ornament pots indoors.
We are so named because of our “green trunks”. We are flowerless, fruitless and standing still on earth. We are often thought to be useless because we bring no benefits but standing forlornly. We are blamed to be problematic, occupying areas for nothing. Our trunks which are believed to be of high value are cut down on the sly.
It is said that forests are usually mysterious, creepy and dangerous. But to us, what scares me the most is NOT a roll of thunder when the nature goes on rampage, NOT raining cats and dogs, NOT powerful hurricanes … but the tiny sharp cold-blooded chainsaw. The noise of running chainsaws sounds spine-chilling. Whenever it starts running, even a giant cedar plant collapses in a minute. Drops of white resin slowly flow from the cut in cold blood and wry grin. It is NOT resin, but our blood, our tear. To others, this white blood is fresh and fragrant; but to us, it stinks. It stinks of greed, insensitivity, selfishness and ignorance.
Mixed with the buzzing sound of chainsaws are the noise of collapse and the images of Uncle Cedars who slowly fall down and lie themselves on the sweet motherland, ending their green, devoted and contributing lives. We look at him being carried away in tears, regret and pain. He looks at us with a regretful but generous eye, without complaining or resenting. He has been living a green life, being strong and heroic in numerous natural disasters, standing tall among foreign invaders like a hero. He has covered tiny green buds, extended his hands to nest many flocks of birds, pampered the swinging of baby monkeys or squirrels. He has grown deep spreading roots to preserve land and water for homes and green fields … And now, he is lying down to serve people in a different manner.
Recently, the green forest of old days becomes eerily ragged and abandoned. Painfully speaking, more bare hills appeared. More and more cedars have been cut down and carried away. Many species such as birds, monkeys, squirrels, elephants … lost their homes, moving to other habitats. The wide forest grows treeless except for few small buds which stay fragile in the sun, weak in the storm.
Then, the rainy season starts. The little immature plants like us cannot do a thing. Rice fields, houses, gardens or even human lives are swept away in flood. We are too weak and impotent. If only cedars were here.
I sigh with regret, expecting that we become grown, strong and firm quickly. Life is full of different types of people. There are selfish, greedy and ignorant people; also, there are people whose hearts are kind, whose hands are caring in order to cultivate green buds successfully. I will become cedars and like my old brothers and sisters, I will live a green heroic and meaningful life so that I will feel proud of what I will have been contributing after I collapse for any reason. People who grow me on this land pin their hopes on our reforestation, reconstruction of culture, preservation of heroic devoted and generous tradition of “Green Plants”. They also expect us to stay safe and grow fast, team up to improve flood defenses, become homes for species of flora and fauna and green lungs of the earth.
Our priority is to adjust the environment. Every day, we remind each other of absorbing dirty smokes and harmful gases and emitting fresh clean air to the mutual home. On the outside, we look useless, as a matter of fact, we do absorb dirty smokes and harmful gases emitted by humans. Nobody assigns this important task to us but every day, we work really hard. Humans produce harmful emissions as they please while we do our best to absorb them years after years. Moreover, we stand tall in the sun every day to produce oxygen to help humans and all species in living.
Additionally, in stormy weather, we also stand stock-still in flood water to protect humans and their properties against natural disasters. We try to keep land green and fertile by restoring the natural green space. It’s all hands on deck, we build green safe home for all species. Every evening, birds return to their nests, chirping happily.
We will be living a green life with no regret despite collapse.

Ladies and gentlemen,
You have just listened to the exclamation of a tiny green bud which witnesses cedars’ collapse. Green plants are known to be of wonderful benefits such as photosynthesis to maintain life, purify the air, reduce dirty smokes and environmental pollution. Immense forests are like lungs of the earth to preserve lands, prevent floods and storms. But now, unplanned deforestation causes serious damages: climate change, greenhouse effect to warm the earth, drought, sea level rise, pollution … Right now, each and every one of us should have a voice to protect magical green buds and our green lungs of the earth.
In the next broadcast, Green Blog will tell you an interesting story named “Trapped”. What would happen when you were stuck in an animal’s trap. Humans would become “spoils” of the animals. Supervised by their king, how would the animals treat the trapped human?
You are cordially welcomed to our next broadcast.
See you all again.
